Hot Buttered Rum

Hot Buttered Rum

This is a great drink to warm up with and relax on a cold winter night.

2 sticks
butter (one at room temperature, one melted)
2 cups
brown sugar
1 tsp
ground cinnamon
½ tsp ground cloves
½ tsp ground allspice
¼ tsp
grated nutmeg

good rum

very hot water

whipped cream

Add the room temp butter to a mixing bowl.  Pour the melted stick of butter over it.  Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and nutmeg.  If you can get whole nutmeg, grate it with a microplane, it makes a big difference.  Stir everything together and spoon the mixture into a resealable bowl and refrigerate.

To make the hot buttered rum, spoon 2 tablespoons of the butter/sugar mixture into a large mug, add two ounces of good rum (I like dark rum best).  Add enough very hot (nearly boiling) water to almost fill the mug.  Stir until the sugar has dissolved, top with whipped cream, serve.  BTW, if you are not a fan of rum, this works very well with good bourbon.
